The Las Vegas Sun Editorial staff came out firmly in favor of proposals by Commissioner Giunchigliani on construction safety, they write…
“Giunchigliani is correct in noting that Nevada OSHA, which has admitted to being understaffed, needs help. Another way the county can provide that help, she says, is for construction companies to be better scrutinized before work even begins.Giunchigliani has obviously put some thought into these proposals, and we hope they are well received by the rest of the County Commission.”

“At the request of Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, drafted a bill that would change the name, makeup and responsibilities of the Metro Fiscal Affairs Committee… it just felt like we weren’t there to question anything; we were there to rubber-stamp, she said.”

“Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani says safety should be considered in evaluating project bids. … “We have to be active and not take a passive approach to safety,” Giunchigliani said. “I think we can do that through our contract process.”

Commissioner proposes code to help groups record, sterilize, vaccinate felines
August, 13, 2008
Las Vegas Sun
“Because the yowling ranks of feral felines are growing as financially strapped people abandon their pets, a self-described “dog person” on the Clark County Commission is pushing for a code change to stop stray cats from overrunning neighborhoods.
“’We have to do something,’ Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani said. ‘The biggest problem is, with foreclosures, people are abandoning their pets, which is not only endangering the pets but adding to the overpopulation problem.’”

“Two more union workers have been fired from CityCenter after being identified in photographs as drinking alcohol and entering the construction site, the project's general contractor said Tuesday.
“The two electricians, including a union steward, were fired late last week.”
“Giunchigliani, who was surprised to read about workers drinking and returning to the job site, said workers need to think beyond themselves before engaging in such activity.
“’What people have to remember is that you endanger your peers and co-workers,’ she said. ‘Even if you're choosing to be stupid, it's not just you.’”

Commissioner Giunchigliani questions six-figure salaries.
Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, who voted against hiring the lobbyists, agreed with Kirkpatrick.
"I think in the long run it is a waste of money," Giunchigliani said.
A former assemblywoman, Giunchigliani said a lobbyist who works for a local government spends a lot of time tracking bills, hardly the kind of work that justifies a six-figure salary.

"I'm not trying to bankrupt these people, but you've got to play by the rules," Giunchigliani said.
The district attorney's office will soon file a criminal complaint that encompasses the Meridian citations, according to county spokesman Erik Pappa. "I can't speak to Mr. Rogich's intervention," Pappa said. "I think in the end people will see we are taking this very seriously."

"We're not here today to do any finger pointing," said County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, who chaired the panel.
"What we're trying to look at is recommendations, solutions, ideas and concepts. ... What do we have in our own ordinances, or don't have, that might be causing either problems or barriers."

“Giunchigliani oversaw the proceedings from the County Commissioners’ dais, alongside Building Trades President Rick Johnson, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, Associated General Contractors Vice President Steve Holloway and Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid. About 50 people — mostly union leaders — were in the audience, and several expressed deep concerns regarding the systems governing construction safety.”

Chris Giunchigliani (in the pink shirt) joined neighbors on a neighborhood cleanup campaign on Saturday, April 21, 2007.

The campaign was within the boundaries of Charleston and Olive and Sandhill and Palm. Many residents took the opportunity to get rid of unwanted items; Joe Knoblock from Republic Services said the clean-up went really well and his workers, who were organized, quick and courteous, finished about 1:00 p.m. They picked up 23 tons more trash from the area than normal. About 12 volunteers came out to help including members of 10,000 Kids; Clark County Code Enforcement; and Graffiti Abatement also assisted with the clean-up and by inspecting the exterior of houses for compliance issues. If you are interested in a project in your neighborhood and live within Commission District E boundaries, contact Chris Giunchigliani through this website or at her Clark County Commission email address chrisg@co.clark.nv.us.

Like any public official, we get brickbats and roses thrown our way. When I made a tough decision this year, the media understood, and I’ve received some nice complements. Columnist Steve Sebelius wrote this article.

When a former constituent called me to look at her home in the Sky Vue Mobile
Home Park, I was shocked by the living conditions. What bothered me just as
much was the lack of coordination among public agencies. One would wade through
raw sewage to inspect electrical connections. Another would watch sparks fly from
faulty wiring as he inspected bad plumbing. No one seemed to coordinate. That's
when I stepped in.

If you live between Charleston and Sahara in Assembly District 9, you have loud helicopters low and overhead. Trying to cut through the red tape of
bureaucracy--multiple county, state, and federal agencies are all involved and
passing the buck-has been one of the most frustrating projects I've taken on.
But we're making progress and I won't give up.

Long before I knew about or applied for a position at the Community College,
I was troubled by the behavior of the Board of Regents. I drafted a bill
in 2002 and introduced it in the 2003 legislature. Subsequent news stories about
the regents back up my statement, "what's broken needs to be fixed."
